What do you need?

Do you have the ability to receive it?

Is it, perhaps, kindness, love, appreciation?

I am not a Tweeter. But it seems the media is obsessed with mean tweets. How about tweeting a little love and respect, a gratitude, an acknowledgment of the blessings and luck in our lives.

How about building us up?

Is it trendy to tear others down with words?

To issue fake apologies.

The words, “I apologize” nearly have no meaning anymore.

How about the Hawaiian tradition of sincere apology:

I’m sorry.

Please forgive me.

Thank you.

I love you.

Tweeting tradition is far from that stance.

Today is Tom’s and my 53rd wedding anniversary. I cannot imagine any other life. I could not have imagined the life and love we have for each other the day we got married.

Early on our married life a priest said to us. ” You do not just say “I do,” once in your life at the altar. “You say it everyday of your married life together.”

He was wise and he was right and we both “I do” each day. We are blessed to have this lengthy time together and to continue to love  and take care of each other.

It’s official now. Summer has arrived in Marshall, Michigan on the gentle June evening breezes in Stewart’s Landing and the first Marshall Rotary Band Summer Concert performance.

Tom and I followed clarinetist Kathleen and percussionist Andrew into the park and set up in front row seats.

We were treated to so many spirited marches from famed composers along with a mixture of melodies from My Fair Lady. I was enjoying it so much, the lady next to me was singing the lyrics and I felt like maybe I could really have danced all night.

It is such a wonderful thing to see Kathleen and Andrew perform, as they have for many years. The community performance band has entertained for forty years, and that is a phenomenal accomplishment.  Devon and Andrew have been a part of it since their high school years and Kathleen, for nearly twenty years.

It is inspiring to see that once one chooses music and an instrument, they don’t ever really put it down. Youth through special senior status played away enthusiastically and professionally.

The audience ranged high into the elder years this night, but the 4th of July concert at the Fountain, complete with chicken bar-b-q and children’s bike and pet parade bring the whole family out, selecting their favorite spot on the lawn with outstretched blanket and the wagon they pulled their young children in to the event. It’s like a step back in time and most attire is completely red, white and blue, stars and stripes. The featured conclusion to each year’s 4th of July event is the melody of tributes to each branch of the armed forces. Always gets me!! And they stand up when their song is played to the clapping and respect of the rest of us.

But, back to June…and here we are last night at intermission in grand park surroundings and weather.

The after-concert tradition. Ice Cream treat of course!

In line with the band leader.

Lots of people had the same idea.

The reward for patience!!

We went back to Kathleen’s all happy, with songs playing in our heads.

I know. We all have mountains to climb. We all have moments when the spirit is willing, but the body is weak. We all have times when fitness means lying down and resting, not doing the next 5K around the corner.

This post is for those moments. When we can count on that indomitable, shining spirit within us, that excels beyond all belief. We are one with our God. And that is good enough!

Here is that spirit, in action! Call upon it today.

The larger plan for this blog is to “one day” collect selected stories from my soon to be fourth year of faithful posts and put them into a bound edition for my children and grandchildren….a legacy to leave behind of my thoughts, dreams, family heritage, spiritual life, fun and games, things I cherish, and “what you didn’t know” tales.

If publishing holds no larger plan for me, that will be enough.

So I must include this June  vacation time with Kathleen and Greg’s family at Dufina Cottage.  Laura was unable to come because of her work schedule, but Carl and Amy joined Tom and me for three days of adventure and fun.

Just like Winnie the Pooh and Christopher Robbin, we got up each day for our adventure on Mackinac Island (they were in the Hundred Acre Woods) and we found fun and beauty everywhere and lots of good eats on our island adventures.

Kathleen and Greg and Devon and Andrew and their friends were on their bikes — A LOT, thus a lack of photos of them.   They braved the windiest day EVER on Mackinac Island.

Devon called us to ask when we were arriving:

And then, watched for our boat to arrive.

The three days went by quickly. Tom and I celebrated our 49th Wedding Anniversary on Thursday night and were treated to a delicious ribs dinner by Susan and Kathleen.  Joe also ventured on very early morning bike rides and captured this beautiful sunrise over Lake Huron.
