As a Usui Reiki Master, I give and teach a natural healing method you can do for yourself anytime, anywhere. It comes from the Japanese spiritual and holistic healing tradition and has been practiced in Japan and the United States and around the world since the early 1900s. The tradition, for a long time, was passed on to another verbally and Reiki practitioners receive “attunements” into Level I, II, or Reiki Master & Master Teacher from another Master who comes from the line of Mikeo Usui, the founder of the healing practice.

One can learn much today from books and the internet about Reiki, but the passing on of the Reiki Universal Life Force powers of healing comes from the hand of another Reiki Master.

Beside the universal desire for love, the two other things I’ve wanted in life were good health and personal, all-abiding peace within. In my search for these, I walked many paths, dipped into many wells of knowledge and wisdom and I’ve had a wide variety of experiences that brought either suffering or healing.

And I guess I would add balance to my life-long “wanted” list for happiness. This explains the draw of Reiki into my life. If Reiki is about one thing- it is most certainly about balancing the body/mind/spirit for the highest good. That includes balancing your physiology and this impacts how you experience your life positively.

When I give a Reiki treatment to a person (hands above or gently on a fully-clothed person), two experiences are common and shared by anyone I treat. First, they experience an intense heat penetrating where ever my hands are placed above or on them; second, they go into a deep relaxation — deeper than shivasana, experienced at the end of a yoga session.
As a Reiki practitioner, I am doing nothing but acting as a vessel for the Universal Life Force to do its healing of the person on whatever level they need it; spiritual, emotional, physical. The person in deep relaxation is actually drawing the Reiki healing power into their being, I am not “sending” it.

When, as a Reiki Master, I give a Level I attunement, to another person, they now have the Reiki Power, to self-treat or treat others in their presence; Level II, is a higher attunement for Distance Healing and like “Prayer Sent” the energy of Reiki can be sent out over the world for the healing of persons or the planet. A person requesting Master Attunement experiences Reiki as a Calling, and wants to bring more Reiki into the world through treatments and attuning new practitioners.

Like the popular phrase in the Star War Series, “The Force is with you,” you can be sure It truly is — Reiki just plugs it in and lights it up!

Reiki has gone to bat for me in the healing of emotional disturbance, soulful direction and on the physical plane where you can see it: heart surgery and not only the healing but the disappearance of a brain tumor without surgery and about 1/4 of the drugs they originally ordered.

Cats love Reiki! I’ve had them dash out from hiding and come lay under my Reiki table when I am giving another person a treatment. They stretch out long and expose their belly (the cats). If I put my Reiki hands on their furry belly, I’m afraid they are going to break their purring machine!

Reiki helps me stay rooted just in today. It reminds me by its principles to strive for and surrender to kindness and honesty, to let go of stress and worry, and to be mindful of my blessings. When I am out of balance and not able to relax or respond to others in kindness, I suffer. I don’t like to suffer. When I include a self-treatment of Reiki for myself in my morning spiritual practice, my day goes better me and for others I come in contact with.

Reiki is one of the wondrous practices that came to me as one of the results of my search for good health, happiness and a support of my spirituality. Reiki is here to be shared.

I am adding pages to my Souljourner at-Large website and looking for new ways to draw people’s attention to it.

http://www.susanheffronhajec.com

In particular, my intention for 2018, besides the writing and publishing of my memoir, is to develop and maintain small group gatherings that will continue to share the practice of SoulCollage and spread the knowledge of the natural healing method of Reiki.

I will also be adding an Author Page,  Write! Now  and an Island of Silence contemplative practice page for the enrichment of the quiet, inner life….one person at a time….for peace in our world.

I am a Reiki Master and Practitioner. In December, I will attune my first practitioner in Kentucky to Second Degree Reiki. We are both blessed by this event.

In Gentle Woman Reiki I give and teach a natural healing method you can do for yourself anytime, anywhere.

Reiki is about relaxation and kindness. When I am out of balance and not able to relax or respond to others in kindness, I suffer. I don’t like to suffer.

Reiki helps me keep the intention of kindness in my day. It makes the day better for me and all others. A Reiki treatment is an experience of deep relaxation. When I give it to another (am a channel for Universal Life Force), the person may be standing, seated or laying down. I may place my hands lightly on them or above them and open to the Divine Energy that knows where it needs to go and what it needs to do to balance that person.

Balancing may occur on a physical, emotional or chemical basis. I am only a “channel of peace” that allows the all-knowing to bring grace to this person. After a Reiki treatment, the person always feels a deep sense of peace, and many times I must await for the person to awake, they relax so deeply.

Reiki is a tradition founded by Mikayo Usui in Japan in the 1940s. He was a spiritual seeker of both Christian and Buddhist tradition and his quest started with wanting to know how Jesus healed. He aspired to have the same ability. He sought and had an awakening spiritual experience, receiving special symbols that are used in Reiki healing today. On the way down the mountain, he manifested several healings.

He began to teach and heal in the town square. Many came and a medical doctor joined him in this healing and teaching. Eventually, a woman, Mrs. Takata, who came for healing, stayed and trained with him and brought the practice to the United States after the 2nd World War. The lines of Reiki Masters come down through her, who taught and practiced in San Francisco.

May the blessings of the Almighty Father rain down upon you seeding you with all good from above.

In his early healings, he found that the beggars and homeless and helpless people did not stay healed unless they put certain qualities at work in their life. Thus he founded the Five Reiki Principles by which I am guided and accountable to remain in the grace of Reiki Master.  These were already in place from my practice of the 12 Step Program by which one stays sober and accountable and responsible for their life.

Just for today…I am grateful.

GUEST BLOG by Julia Lim

Ikigai (生き甲斐) is a Japanese concept meaning “a reason for being.” Everyone, according to the Japanese, has an ikigai. Finding it requires a deep and often lengthy search of self-discovery and reflection.

The word “ikigai” is usually used to indicate the source of value in one’s life or the things that make one’s life worthwhile. The word is also used to refer to mental and spiritual circumstances under which individuals feel that their lives are valuable. It’s not necessarily linked to economic status or daily state of things.

Even if a person feels that today is dark, but has a goal, he may feel ikigai. Behaviours that make one feel “a reason for being” are not actions which individuals are forced to take – these are natural and spontaneous actions.

In the culture of Okinawa, ikigai is thought of as “a reason to get up in the morning”; that is, a reason to enjoy life. In a TED Talk, Dan Buettner referenced ikigai as one of the reasons people in the area had such long lives.

Tom and I are fans of Hawaii 5 O. Me, more for the scenery than some of the stories, but we watch the show fairly often. It is where the “Book ’em Danno” line came from. We  visited the beautiful islands of Hawaii on our 40th wedding anniversary in 2007, and now I have met beautiful Emma Thompson, who creates wondrous healing herbs and essential oils from nature there.

Several years ago, I started this website blog with the intention of highlighting books that interest me, or that I have read, or that I know the author that wrote them or also the authors I am having wonderful conversations with who are writing wonderful books.

This fell to the wayside for many reasons and many moves since I started it.

However, it is back now!

I intend to learn how to build audience for this site and also to take submissions for guest blogs and information on the writing life.

Feel free to contribute to me at   sue.hajec@gmail.com

The Chinese character for mystery, or yugen, is the same character for mountain, which looks like an inverted T with two squiggles on each side of the vertical stem.

“The line is the mountain and the squiggles on either side represent the mist in the valley that invokes a certain anticipation of the hidden.”  (The Zen of Creativity, John Daido Loori)

We often associate mystery with the darker side of life, the unknown. Then in religion and art, mystery is actually light, itself.  I am interested in mystery today because I am attempting to “sort out” and “be with” a great mystery of loss which has befallen my friends, in a sudden and tragic death of a young mother and friend.

Being with this loss is indeed taking up all aspects of mystery — the terrible darkness it brought upon us and the light we must seek to go back to center and live from there.  Peaking around the next corner into the darkness is not my forte.

In his writing upon mystery, John Daido Loori,  one of the truly great Zen Masters, says:

“Mystery is the seed of discovery. The term ‘mystical’ means: ‘Having a spiritual meaning that is neither apparent to the senses nor obvious to the intellect. It is direct subjective communication that we can’t process intellectually. We can’t see it, hear it, smell it, taste it, touch it, or think it. It is very subtle and slippery, impossible to nail down or explain. Yet we’re somehow aware of its presence, and it has a real impact on us.”

He goes on to explain how we can become aware of its presence.

“In order for us to perceive this subtle quality, three elements must be in place: trust in our spiritual practice, trust in the creative process, and most importantly, trust in ourselves. If any of these are missing, the whole structure collapses and we retreat into certainty. So we trust, even if we can’t explain or justify why we do what we do.” P 194 The Zen of Creativity

I had underlined the first part of this and made notes in the margin when I was first reading this book, probably over fifteen years ago.  After several moves, and still not having my categories together on ever-moving bookcases, I pulled it out today, thinking about Zen, Reiki and Japanese art because I am on the brink of an opportunity to take two workshops in Japanese flower painting and Wabi-Sabi collage next week. Which I am so excited about, I could pee my pants.

Also, because I am filled with grace to have come under Janet Conner’s (Janetconner.com) tutelage since Writing Down Your Soul, Lotus and Lily AND Intersection for Writers on-going instruction modules and books.

THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT SHE TEACHES …..THERE IS NO WRITING COURSE OUT THERE THAT I KNOW OF THAT INSTRUCTS AND INSISTS ON SPIRITUAL PRACTICE AS PART AND PARCEL OF THE CREATIVE PROCESS.

And her process for writing, to those of us listening and learning, goes directly to accessing that special mystical quality and writing from there….and trusting it. That is her belief and her brand. That is the sweet spot and her students are zeroing in on it. What fabulous books are being authored that are going to reside on bookstore shelves across the world and fly from the internet into homes awaiting their special gifts and wisdom.

SHE IS SO RIGHT, RIGHT, RIGHT. WE ARE  SO BLESSED, BLESSED, BLESSED.

Just how long did it take to grow the mountains? It’s a mystery, right? So many layers, so many changes, over time…over time. Just like a mystery. It is a mystery to me how my eyes fell upon this section  of the book, after having been out of my sight for so very long. But for me, this is a special seeding time. The field is ripe and the conditions are powerful and potent. I am about my purpose. I have been guided to my guides, here on earth and beyond. I am in good hands. Who’s hands?

Well, that’s a mystery.

Gentle Woman Reiki

Today’s post is a repost of a blog I wrote a couple of years ago. Today, I continue this practice and continue to give Reiki treatments to those who desire them and Reiki attunements to those who wish to add Reiki practice and healing to their lives.

An ongoing update of the blessings of Reiki in my own family life. Many, with medical comments of the belief that Reiki is, in part, and sometimes wholly attributed to the healings experienced. I always treat Tom and he has recovered remarkedly from back pain over the past two years. He had a spinal fusion surgery and a fast recovery as he rehabbed with no further problems and the ability to walk distances with no pain. The previous ten years had been agony.

His skin cancers, especially around his face and scalp, have continued to be challenging, but right along with frequent Reiki treatments, he found excellent care at University of Michigan Cancer Clinic. This past year, he’s had over a half-dozen MOHS surgical procedures and the main doctor on the case said to us, “You are a good healer, in fact, you are the best healer I’ve seen with the amount of recovery you had to do.”  He definitely acknowledged Tom’s role in choosing healthy recovery and encouraged us to  continue the “Raykee” or whatever it was he was doing!

angels-in-a-doorway-2

This happened in the early morning hours of Friday, Feb. 22, 2013

“I have something to tell you, stay there a minute.” This is what Tom said to me this morning when he got up. I was sitting in my “quiet chair” with early morning prayer and meditation.  I stayed where I was.

He returned and sat down in his lounger chair and told me the following:

Last night I got up around 2:00 o’clock AM. As I turned to come around the bed to head into the bathroom, I noticed a bright light near the door of the bedroom. I turned to look at it and I saw a white form just leaving the room. I only saw the back of her. My first thought was, angel.

I walked to the doorway and looked down the hallway that opens to the kitchen area. I saw two of these white forms standing and conversing with one another. They had white/tannish flowing garments. I could not see where they ended at the floor.  I watched them. I could not hear them. I felt very peaceful.

I had to go to the bathroom so I did and when I returned, they were not there. I still felt the peace and returned to bed and went back to sleep.”

Tom is healing from the first of three scheduled skin cancer surgeries. I had given him Reiki  healing/love energies as he fell asleep last night. The heat coming from his body was quite intense as I held my hands softly above his head and drew the Reiki healing symbols onto him. He fell asleep quite easily and was not in pain.

My guidance tells me Tom saw his healers. He said he knew them to be feminine, but doesn’t know how he knew. He has Archangel Raphael, the healing angel Icon above his workspace since his back surgery a couple years ago, when the green Raphael Energy flooded him with an instant turn-around from a crisis situation in the hospital.

So I have been conversing with my angel guides on a regular basis now for a couple of years. I write what I hear as my guidance in my journals. I sense their loving and guiding presence around and within me. And when I say “they” and “their” I mean only ONE — for that is all there is,  ONE.   In fact, the name I’ve been given to converse with is…..WHO —  Whole and Holy One.

This year, I have opened to not only hearing and writing and sensing my guide, but I have told my guide I Am ready to see it.

And WHO sees his guide(s)? Tom, of course. He has that type of accepting spirit. I read, and meditate and think, and “do”,  all of which has some merit. But I know that I need more of a “Mary” consciousness than a  busy “Martha” (but bless her abundantly for I love her biblical activity and understand where she’s coming from). At least my hallway was neat for the angels to converse in!

Then I remember an angel correspondence I wrote down and posted in Napkinwriter and went back to look for it. This was posted one and one-half years before last night’s experience.

I am glad with joy! In the year of 2013- My Intention Mandala Year of Joy and Fun!

A Message from the Angels

By Susan H. Hajec

Dedicated to Margo & Janet

In an open doorway, there is a space.
It is the space between
where you are
and where
you are going.

Pay attention to what comes to you
when you open this door
with the space between
you
and your future.

We are in that space
as your guides
and as your direction.
We are your angels.

So there is no need to fear
when you make your choices
from the love and light
that are in this doorway.

We are willing to pull you
or push you through the appearance
of obstacles or a harsh wind.

In this doorway you can create
a new now
filled with what is attracting you.
It takes only your decision.

There is no need
to hurry, dear one,
no need to rush.

Just be in the quiet
in the space
in the open door

between you
and your future.
We are here!
And in a millisecond
of the time it takes you to decide,
we will make it happen!

Again, do not be afraid.
It feels like you are lost
but you are not.
You are just in the space

in the open door
immersed in possibility and potential.

When what you have enjoyed
has come to an end,
it is your turn

to choose once again
what comes next
in the open door
where you can create
and just be.

What to Do For a “Lighter You”

October 14, 2010http://worldhealingnetwork.wordpress.com/2010/10/14/lighteryou/?blogsub=confirming#blog_subscription-2
Cindi Oriente – World Healing Network
Napkinreaders, enjoy this writing created by Cindi at the World Healing Network. I just finished a global time of praying for and giving Reiki worldwide to those on their healing list and others who I know to have healing needs.
The following writing sums up a guaranteed peaceful way to be in our world and as I practice these things, I get deeper and deeper into a pool of peace, which is more and more often not able to be disturbed by circumstances in my own or others’ lives.

In these times of great change and accelerated energy there are many steps you can take and ideas you can embrace that will help you not only cope, but thrive. This requires that you release outdated, fear-based thoughts, beliefs and emotions to make way for a new, higher-frequency, love-based reality.

Here are ten things you can do to become a “lighter you”:

Commit to your evolution

Dedicate yourself to personal evolution, and cultivate a relationship with yourself that is loving, patient and without judgment. Acknowledge that you are powerful, and that your thoughts, coupled with the heart energy, can create any reality you dream of. Be aware that your energy extends well beyond your physical body, and that you have the ability to affect the world around you simply by your presence, so you make the choice to live consciously and responsibly.

Choose love

Remember that there are two basic emotional expressions–love and fear–and that at any given moment each of us is either in a state of giving and receiving love or in a state of fear, calling out for love. Moment to moment, as often as possible, make the love choice.

Acknowledge your important role

Realize that you are involved in a great period of spiritual awakening, and that you can be a facilitator in this exciting shift in consciousness and heightened awareness by being a living love-example. Every moment offers an opportunity to serve in some way, even if simply by being an example of unconditional love through your words, thoughts and actions. By doing so, you inspire others to do the same.

Be compassionate

Live with compassion and tolerance for all individuals and paths, even if you do not choose them for yourself. Understand that all paths eventually lead one back to their Source, no matter how they appear to our physical eyes.

Take time to be still

Give your mind and body a rest. Meditation not only relieves stress and creates balance, but in moments of silence you are more likely to perceive the messages of Spirit. A simple way to get started is to sit or lie down in a peaceful place and focus on your breathing. What can result is a greater sense of well-being, feelings of love and serenity, new insights, a solution to a problem, etc.

Be here now

Be willing to focus more on the present moment and relinquish attachment to the past or future. When you focus on what’s happening right here and now your creative energy is more fully available to handle every situation with love, clarity and personal power.

Take responsibility

Shift from any tendency towards a victim mentality into personal responsibility for each and every moment of your life. Know that all the experiences you have attracted into your life are purposeful and have the potential for positive meaning and growth.

Consider forgiveness

If there is anyone from your past that you are angry with, consider forgiveness. Anger drain’s one’s energy–it’s a lower, heavier frequency. Forgiveness is for your own benefit. It does not mean you condone the negative acts of another–it simply frees you to get on with your life in a way that is loving and unencumbered by past hurts.

Stay peaceful

Maintain serenity and a sense of balance in the face of the negative illusions within physical reality, including the presence of suffering. Realize that underlying all aspects of the physical world are the essence of love and the presence of peace. Even behind suffering is a Divine plan.

Let love lead you

Be willing to allow your heart intelligence to be your guide, and surrender the human mind to the heart-mind.

I joined Cindi’ Oriente’s healing network today at the global hour when so many others around the world were also offering their Reiki healing and prayers. When I finished, I had a sense of peace but also a sense of increased  need out there in the world that has occurred just in this past week.

Many, many more people woke up today to a different world than they knew one short week ago — one of pain, devastation and loss; through the tornadoes, the Ohio high school shootings, and Syria’s now-blocked-from the world’s view killings.

I offer my time and myself in prayer for the masses and for  personal family and friends’ needs. At the end of my prayer time, I read a little bit about Cindi and in one instance she asked us if we remember the story of Chicken Little.

I do. I hated that story. I hated people laughing or making light of Chicken Little and not listening to her. I was on Chicken Little’s side. And for a good part of my own life, I felt often that the sky was falling on me.

Now I am praying and offering my Reiki healing to those people and families upon which the sky truly has fallen. My time is very quiet — my knowing is that there is a Spirit, Power, and Presence in the very places and hearts where it is needed — while I sit in my unchanged world with only my heart and my love and my prayers  to give them. This will have to be enough.

It is enough because it is light and I believe with all my heart that this light shines through a darkness that cannot put it out. Tears from a bottomless well of broken hearts cannot douse the flame — because when there are those who cannot see because of the darkness, there are also those who carry the light and surround them until the way can be found.

There is much need for us to “keep our lamps lit” to keep our hearts open and to be ready. For we have been told we do not know the day or the hour in which we will be called to share our own light or be prepared to receive the light of love and prayer from another.
